Why Are We So Confused?
Why are we so confused about human sexuality? Most couples live together before they get married. Virginity is scoffed at. Sex has been divorced from marriage and family life. People claim the right to have sex with whomever they want, whenever they want.
The worst effect of this confusion is that we as Catholics get so wrapped up in how our culture is warping sexuality that we fail to enter more deeply into its mystery ourselves.
The problem is that we have lost touch with some of the foundational teachings about the human person and the human body. Without these teachings, not only do we face confusion about important topics like these, but we miss out on some of the most beautiful truths about human life.
There is a Solution! Introducing the Theology of the Body!
Pope John Paul II recognized the confusion that our culture would face today way back in the 1980s. He dedicated his Wednesday audiences from 1979 to 1984 – five years! – to teaching about the human body and its role in God’s plan for our lives.
The further challenge is that over the course of five years, the teachings of Theology of the Body became complex.
The Theology of the Body has the answers to our questions. We just have to wade through it, unpack its meaning, and apply it to our lives. But who has time to do that?
