Description
Why are we so confused about the human body? Gender identity, sexuality, the place of physical pleasure, and sexual sins are all topics that cause a lot of questions. It’s difficult to know the truth about our bodies.
The problem is that we have lost touch with some of the foundational teachings about the human person and the human body. Without these teachings, not only do we face confusion about important topics like these, but we miss out on some of the most beautiful truths about human life.
There is a Solution! Introducing the Theology of the Body!
Pope John Paul II recognized the confusion that our culture would face today way back in the 1980s. He dedicated his Wednesday audiences from 1979 to 1984 – five years! – to teaching about the human body and its role in God’s plan for our lives.
The further challenge is that over the course of five years, the teachings of Theology of the Body became complex.
The Theology of the Body has the answers to our questions. We just have to wade through it, unpack its meaning, and apply it to our lives. But who has time to do that?
Theology of the Body Made Simple
The classes in the You Are Not An Angel course teach you the most important elements of Pope John Paul II’s teaching on the body in simple, easy to understand terms.
Good teaching means taking complex concepts and presenting them in ways that are easy to understand and easy to apply to your life. That’s what I have dedicated my life to.
In this series, I break the Theology of the Body down into its most basic concepts and present those concepts in ways that are readily grasped. I then help you apply those concepts to your life.
This program makes the Theology of the Body simple!
You Are Not An Angel – Why God Gave You a Body
What You’ll Learn
Following ancient errors, we sometimes assume that our bodies are less important than our spiritual souls. There is a popular cultural vision that when we die we leave our bodies behind, our spirits sprout wings and a halo and we live among the clouds strumming our harps. But this isn’t what our faith teaches us.
“I believe in the resurrection of the body.” The Creed recalls for us the teachings of Jesus about the resurrection of the body. Human beings are created as an integration of body and spirit. That means that our bodies and our spirits both participate in our sin, and in our redemption.
So what does this mean for our spirituality? What does it mean for our relationship with God?
“You Are Not An Angel – Why God Gave You a Body” explores the purpose for the human body and the role it plays in our walk with Jesus. In this course you’ll learn:
- What it means to be created in the Image and Likeness of God (and what it doesn’t mean).
- The purpose of our existence (yes we do know why we’re here).
- The role our bodies play as Images of God and in the purpose for our existence (turns out, really important ones).
- What the body is not for and why the moral teaching has so much to say about how to use the body properly.
- What love is (and why you have to learn Greek to fully understand it).
- What sexuality is (it’s more than you think it is) and why it is so important.
- How to use our bodies to give God glory!
