Description
If we follow the world’s lead on relationships, we will be lost. According to the world, love is some sort of mysterious emotional experience that comes and goes by the hand of fate. Marriage and having children is a luxury to be experienced only as long as the pleasure they bring outweighs the cost. Friendships as well are meant to bring us fun and happiness, and if they don’t they have no value.
But we all know that relationships are difficult. They are all too often the source of frustration, conflict, and pain. For relationships to work takes hard work and sacrifice. According to the world, the cost may not be worthwhile. But according to God, the cost is exactly the point of human relationships.
God’s plan for human relationships is very different from the shallow, selfish vision offered by the world. It’s also deeper, more meaningful, and incredibly beautiful. It’s rooted in the truth that we are created in God’s Image and Likeness, and are therefore created to give and receive love.
But the human story is one rife with difficulty in living up to the Image and Likeness of God. Original Sin damaged us and made our relationships a struggle.
The good news is that Jesus Christ wants to redeem us from the effects of Original Sin, and therefore to redeem our relationships. But we need to understand just how and why humanity was broken by the Fall, and how Jesus seeks to redeem them, in order to apply that redemption to our relationships.
