While the St Augustine Prayer Book is Episcopalian/Anglican in origin, a good Catholic will hardly be able to tell. This little prayer book has prayers for use throughout the day, all pointing back to the Sacraments. There may be some small differences in chapters like “The Christian Obligations,” but not many. The book includes “Common Prayer,” the Episcopalian form of the Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office, wich Morning Prayer, Mid-Day Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline. Interspersed with these liturgies are prayers for daily happenings, such as going on a trip or returning home.  The book also contains a section on common prayers, which include not only the basics (the Our Father, etc), but also Acts of Faith, Hope, and Love, an Act of Contrition, and an Act of Self-Dedication. Other prayers include prayers for virtues, prayers for a priest and a parish, and prayers of thanksgiving.

Entire sections of the book are dedicated to being properly disposed for the reception of the Holy Eucharist and preparing for the Sacrament of Confession. Prayers before and after Holy Communion and prayers for adoring the Blessed Sacrament are included. An examination of conscience is offered based on the Seven Deadly Sins.

The book also includes devotions for the liturgical seasons. Topical devotions include devotions to the Blessed Trinity, Prayers for the Dead, Devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Devotions to Saint Joseph, and Devotions to the Holy Angels.
