Favorite Novenas to the Saints is arranged for private prayer on the feasts of the Saints with short, helpful meditations before each Novena.

A novena is nine days of prayer for a special occasion or a special intention. Why nine days? Mary and the Apostles waited for nine days between the Ascension and Pentecost Sunday. On Pentecost, Jesus fulfilled His promise to send the Holy Spirit. So we use nine days to ask for a special intention, in hope that our Lord will fulfill His promise to give us what we ask for in His name. But a novena is not a magical formula that somehow forces God’s hand. Rather, it’s an exercise in trust and hope. The nine days of prayer should change our hearts and fortify our faith first. Our prayer is always Thy Will be done. But we persevere in prayer as Jesus taught us to do.
