Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio first explains that America is at a crossroads. It could become like Holland, where abortion, euthanasia, prostitution, and psychedelic drug use are all legal, or it could turn back to its moral roots. America needs transformation, and Confirmation has the power to transform the culture. Dr. D’Ambrosio poses the problem that most Catholics are confused about what confirmation is. Confirmation is not a Catholic Bar Mitzvah, a ceremony ushering a child into adulthood in the faith. To show what he means, Dr. D’Ambrosio explains the meaning and history of anointing. In the Old Testament, priests, prophets and kings were anointed. Christ’s anointing was the beginning of His public ministry as Priest, Prophet and King. When we are anointed in Confirmation, we are anointed as priests, prophets and kings. The crux of this talk is how we live out our three-fold mission in the world, empowered by the grace of Confirmation. Next, Dr. D’Ambrosio talks about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, which lead us to personal sanctity, and the charisms, which empower us to serve the community. Finally, he discusses sleeping vs. activated grace and exhorts his listeners to activate the grace of their sacraments.
