Description
The Wedding Lasso Rosary, also called a Lazo, is a traditional wedding gift in Mexican, Filipino, and Spanish communities. It’s a Rosary large enough to be “lassoed” around the couple. When it’s used inside the wedding ceremony, it takes the place of the unity candle. It’s usually placed around the couple’s shoulders after they have spoken their wedding vows. The best man and maid of honor place the Rosary around the groom’s shoulders and then around the bride’s, forming a figure eight. The priest can then recite a prayer invoking the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary not the couple and reminding them that marriage is fulfilled in the mutual gift of sacrificial love. The Lasso Rosary signifies that their marital bond has its origins in Jesus, that marriage binds the could together with an indissoluble bond (the figure-eight representing infinity), and that the couple should keep their marriage strong by calling upon the sacramental graces through prayer.
Even if its’ not used inside the wedding ceremony, the wedding lasso rosary makes a great gift. Two complete Rosaries (5 decades) are joined at the medallion, enabling a couple to pray the Rosary together, their hands getting closer together as they progress through the mysteries. This reminds the couple that they grow closer together as their faith in God grows.
